WHERE IS LOTUSBIRD LODGE?

Lotusbird lodge is located 28 kilometres east of the Musgrave Roadhouse, in the center of the Cape York wilderness. It is a 6 hour 480 kilometre drive (or 2 hour flight) north from Cairns along the inland Peninsula Development Road.

Lotusbird Lodge is located on the main road (Marina Plains Road) between Musgrave Roadhouse and the northern entrance to Lakefield National Park.

Getting Here By Road

For self drive visitors from either Cairns or Weipa, travel along the Peninsula Development Road to Musgrave Corner, and then turn east along Marina Plains Road and travel 28 kilometres to the Lodge.

Alternatively, if traveling from the south, follow the Peninsula Development Road only as far as Laura then take the turn-off to Lakefield National Park. At the north entrance to the Park, turn west along Marina Plains Road and travel 15 kilometres to the Lodge.

From Cooktown, travel via Battlecamp Road through the Park to its northern entrance, and turn west along Marina Plains Road and travel 15 kilometres to the Lodge.

Fuel is available at Laura and Musgrave and a 4 wheel drive is recommended past either Laura or Cooktown.

Getting Here By Air

Nearby Musgrave Roadhouse has a 900m all weather airstrip that is available for use by charter flights and private aircraft. With prior notice, helicopters can land at the lodge's heli-pad.

The mail plane service (operates once a week) is a unique way to see a lot of Cape York pastoral life. Landing at some 15 remote properties on the way, it is certainly a memorable experience. Seats on the mail plane are very limited so early booking is essential.
